GETTING
A SECOND OPINION FROM
ISTODIEREVNITIKI

ISTODIEREVNITIKI has experienced, suitably trained and authorised medical staff who provide:

  • doctors and/or patients who so wish with a second opinion on records diagnosed at another laboratory;
  • a second opinion to anatomic pathologists in cases of concerns about differing diagnoses;
  • advice on the choice of suitable confirmatory tests and the appropriate type and location of histological specimens, depending on clinical indications.
  • They also inform, offer guidance to, and facilitate the patient in relation to procedures for further referral of diagnostic materials to fully specialised centres and anatomic pathologists in Greece and abroad in cases with particular diagnostic difficulties.

In the majority of cases, the following are sufficient for ISTODIEREVNITIKI to provide a second opinion:

  1. The diagnostic material (slides and/or paraffin blocks) based on which the initial diagnosis was made
  2. The request for a second opinion
  3. The anatomic pathology findings relating to the initial diagnosis.

In quite a few cases, in order to confirm or amend the initial diagnosis, additional supplementary tests may be required on the diagnostic material submitted, where it exists in sufficient quantity.

In a few cases it may still be necessary to take additional biopsies to confirm the diagnosis. This will be done in all events following arrangements made with the attendant doctor.

Unfortunately, the possibilities outlined in the previous two paragraphs cannot be foreseen before the source material is examined.
