A wide range of tests are carried out at the ISTODIEREVNITIKI anatomic pathology laboratory on histological material obtained from surgical specimens and biopsies.

We accept formalin-fixed specimens, tissues and organs for First Diagnosis.

If we’ve been asked to provide a second opinion, we accept paraffin blocks or ready slides.

Diagnoses are made by a team of anatomic pathologists with over 25 years of professional experience. The team is headed by Thomas Zaramboukas, Professor of Pathology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Medicine.

Also on the company’s staff are experienced biologists and technologists specialised in anatomic pathology, as well as secretaries.

Turnaround times (Turnaround Times-TaT’s) for tests range from 24 to 48 hours for biopsies, if no additional special examination is required.

The laboratory keeps a 10-year archive of materials available for consultative study or to help it carry out additional specialised supplementary diagnostic and pharmacogenomic tests.

When examining individual specimens and making diagnoses relating to cancer cases, we apply the guidelines and protocols of the American College of Pathologists (CAP) and the Hellenic Society of Pathology.

To ensure diagnostic and technical adequacy, the Laboratory

1. participates in external quality assessment schemes run by LABQUALITY Finland (www.labquality.fi) and UKNEQAS (www.ukneqas.org.uk) (a body which also assesses the NHS laboratories in Great Britain) and

2. implements internal quality control procedures by evaluating critical quality and performance indicators.
